It used to be that buying art was an exhausting and time-consuming activity. You need to go to a gallery, check out its limited collection, and hope to find an artwork that suits your taste and style. If you don’t find anything interesting enough, you drive to another one and again check out the works one by one. Then if it doesn’t work out, you go to yet another gallery and repeat the same process. Sometimes, not being able to find the perfect painting for your home brings you to, just settle on the next best thing.

However, with the advent of the Internet, you now have the option of buying art online. Not only is buying artworks online easier and more convenient, but you are also not limited by time and space. This means that gone are the days when you can only get artworks from your local area. With online art galleries, you can now get the artwork that suits your personality and your taste wherever it is in the world. This gives you an almost unlimited selection of artworks to choose from.

However, buying art is both a personal and financial decision. While your main purpose is to beautify your room, artworks – like jewelry and fine wine – can appreciate over time. The artwork that cost you only $500 could actually hit $5,000 in a few years, especially if the artist has become more notable and his works more in-demand.

Here are the top 5 things to remember on how to make the best out of buying paintings online.

5. Consider your design philosophies. You may find a beautiful oil painting, but be sure that it goes well with everything in your display space. If the only place where you could hang a large piece of artwork is your living room, which is the most common area in your house, then make sure that the artwork is tasteful and wholesome. A racy subject on a living room artwork would be very uncomfortable to discuss with in-laws and certain guests. Also, if you adhere to a minimalist design philosophy, loud and awry paintings might stick out like a sore thumb.

4. Know your budget. While paintings may be considered investments, it still makes good sense to work within a budget. How much are you willing to spend on a particular artwork? Works done by an up-and-coming artist could easily fetch $1000, and as the reputation of the artist gets solidified, the higher his or her artworks would sell.

3. Do some research on the piece you want to buy. Read more about the painting – like the media used, the style, the inspiration, and the meaning – as well as about the artist. This is especially true if you want to own a painting that will appreciate in the coming years. Is the artist established? Is the artist emerging? You could get an idea from the artist’s body of work, his affiliations and the exhibits he or she has participated in. Moreover, knowing all these things could help you preserve your paintings better. For example, spotlights have been known to damage oil painting, or moisture can severely devalue watercolors. Do not be afraid to ask the experts or art consultants you come in contact with. They will be able to give you an advice on your potential art purchase.

2. Make sure the artwork is authentic. You should be able to secure a certificate that attests to the authenticity of the artwork. By authentic, we mean that a certain artwork was really done by a certain artist, and not just some replica.

1. Know your gallery or seller. Once you have decided on the perfect artwork or painting for you, then start doing your research online regarding the gallery or vendor. Look for forums and blogs that made mention of your selected gallery, and see if reviews about it are good and positive. Make sure not one post, comment or testimonial by a previous customer is negative or is a report of some sort of scam by that gallery. See if it is trustworthy and if other people actually recommend using it. Also, if available, read what the press has to say about that gallery. If you don’t find anything about the gallery, then maybe you should hold off your purchase until some sort of feedback is available. It is not advisable for you to give your credit card details without first being certain that your money is safe with that gallery. Otherwise, it would be difficult to recover whatever you have lost. Furthermore, check out a gallery’s shopping cart and see if it provides easy and secure purchases online and if shipping terms and conditions are favorable to you.

A masterpiece is something created with the use of an extraordinary capability of an individual. Oftentimes it encompasses several works of art that is world class and perfectly made by skillful hands of artists of different races. It is something that would allow the artist to explore his capabilities in combining colors, applying paint, and using different mediums of art. It also has various themes, which include nature, experiences and many more. Art comes in different forms it could either be drawings, sculptures, pictures but the most common are paintings.

Long time ago the earliest paintings done by primitive people were mostly animals like mammoths and lions. Those that are common on the wild are shown in their paintings and humans hunting them. Paintings indeed are documented evidence on how people during the old times strive to search for their food and necessities. These paintings are found on the walls of caves and surprisingly preserved until this very moment. It goes to show that painting is an already an old art practiced by humans.

Painting is one of the most common hobbies of many individuals. It is popular because it is easy to do, and it helps the individual to experiment with colors and designs. An individual is free to choose whatever theme, he desires. He can choose from different kinds of media like a water color, tempera, spray paint, and oil pastel. Water color is commonly used by individuals since it is available anywhere, and it is less expensive. What needs to be done in using watercolor is that, the painter only needs to prepare a small basin filled with water, a brush and a surface to paint on. As for professionals, they commonly use tempera because of its long lasting effects and colors of these paints are really emphasized as in comparison to the dull aura of watercolors. Aside from being permanent, it’s a medium of choice for many because it dries really fast. When tempera is dried up already, it produces a smooth end product of painting. Artists would simply prepare a small plate-like item where they place all sorts of colors and a plain white canvass then they can start creating their next work of art. Spray paint is used in graffiti, painting on concrete walls commonly found in public places. The painter would spray the pigments of paint to create an outstanding work of art. Another medium is the oil pastel. It is used just like how crayons work and has greater pigment portions and fewer binders. Whatever the medium used by painters, they are knowledgeable enough to make the right choices, since they know what they are planning to make.

There are actually varieties of style in painting. To name a few common ones include abstract expressionism, futurism, realism and cubism. The abstract expressionism includes spirituality and the subconscious mind. Generally, it is an art that includes unrecognizable images but are very meaningful. Upon looking to this style of art one cannot immediately see the projected image of the painting. Futurism style emphasized on speed and technology as the name suggests. It is more on being able to dominate the world with industrialization, and it rejects tradition. As for realism, the artist would portray their paintings as something very simple with fewer elaborations, and of course it includes activities usually done by most individuals. It represents the true face of the world, and it is supported by truth. The usual depictions in photos are also the ones portrayed in this style of painting. Another style in painting is cubism which we can actually correlate with geometrical figures because this style utilizes planes and shapes that are combined to form a certain picture. It might not appear as geometrical figures at first glance but on thorough inspection, we can see that indeed it’s a combination of shapes.

These products of our emotions are then criticized and placed in a museum for public viewing. Others are displayed in galleries for the purpose of selling and earning money. Whatever the outcomes of our talents, it is an achievement we need to be proud of and after all, we just wanted to express our emotions.
